A CHINESE fugitive, who had been in the country as a student, was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration  (BI), which is also poised to ask the university concerned to explain why it should not be sanctioned for allowing himi to enroll this semester without requiring to renew his visa first.

Atty. Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, BI spokesperson, said that a report received by Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the alien as He Hui, 27. He is now detained at the BI jail in Bicutan, Taguig City, following his arrest last July 26 inside the BI-SVS office at the Que-zon City Hall building.
Records show that He Hui had been staying and studying in the Philippines since fleeing his country to avoid arrest and prosecution. He had just applied for the renewal of his expired student visa when the employees discovered that the applicant’s name was on the bureau’s watchlist of wanted alien fugitives.
Morente ordered him deported for being an undesirable and illegally-staying alien, as he was already overstaying at the time of his arrest for failing to renew his student visa before it expired last February.
According to Mangrobang, Hui is an undocumented alien due to the cancellation of his passport by the Chinese government and Records showed that Hui had been studying at the Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) since last year. He was said to have violated the conditions of his stay when he continued to study even after his student visa expired.
According to Mang-robang, Hui was placed in the bureau’s watchlist last April 29 when the bureau’s board of commissioners issued an order for his summary deportation.  The deportation order was issued at the request of the Chinese Embassy in Manila which informed the BI that Hui is a fugitive wanted for economic crimes in China.
