AGENTS of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office have shot dead at least 66 armed drug traffickers during encounters in the province since July 1 as they launched a fierce crackdown on notorious drug personalities following orders from the Philippine National Police leadership, the Bulacan police director said yesterday.
Two of the suspects identified as Joswel Leabres, alias ‘Yeye Putol,’ 21, and Paulo Saseluya, alias ‘Pilay,’ 42, were killed in separate firefights with the police in Marilao and Norzagaray towns on Tuesday, said Senior Supt. Romeo M. Camarat Jr.
The official said that apart from the 66 drug personalities who were killed in shootouts with his men since July 1, they are also investigating the killing of 16 other suspected drug offenders in the province, who were all gunned down by unidentified men.
Leabres, of Block 9, Lot 27, Northville 4A, Bgy. Lambakin, Marilao, was killed while exchanging fire with undercover officers.
On the other hand, Saseluya was gunned down after firing at lawmen in Norzagaray. His live-in partner, Ruelina Babaidilla, 20, was arrested during the operation.
No casualty was reported on the side of the Bulacan police. Caramat said the slain suspects each yielded a loaded cal. .38 revolver, eight plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the marked money paid to them by poseurs.
Babaidilla is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
