2 MORE BANK ACCOUNTS

TWO more peso time deposit accounts of Chief Justice Renato Corona will be presented when the impeachment trial resumes next week.

The House prosecution panel said the defense team will again experience difficulties in looking for alibis to deny the multi-million-peso account.

“Hindi pa nga tapos iyong mga properties o iyong mga deposits na nasa isang bangko pa lang ho tayo in terms of deposits that have been revealed meron pang dalawang accounts na sasabihin noong PS Bank President sa Monday, ni hindi pa nabubuksan. Sabi ko nga po tingin ko mahihirapan silang magpaliwang diyan,” prosecution spokesperson Rep. Miro Quimbo said.

PS Bank president Pascual Garcia was ordered by the impeachment court to return to the witness stand on Monday to testify on the two more bank accounts of Corona.

Last Thursday, Pascual and branch manager Annabelle Tiongson disclosed that at least three time deposit accounts of Corona, amounting to millions, were closed on December 12, 2011 or the day the lawmakers filed the impeachment case against him.

Bank records showed that Corona closed two bank accounts - 089-121019593 and 089-121021681 on December 12, 2011 with ending or closing balances of P12.5 million and P7.1 million as of December 10, 2010 respectively. The two accounts amounted to P19.6 million.

Another peso time deposit was opened on June 29, 2011 with opening balance of P17 million and was closed also on December  2011.

The defense team said that the millions of money deposited to the said accounts do not belong to Corona but to the company owned by the family of his wife Cristina.

According to Quimbo, they expect the defense team to use the Basa-Guidote Enterprises Inc. to belie the prosecutions’ charges.

The company was also used by the defense in explaining the issue of the purchase by Corona of penthouses in Bellagio Towers and in Bonifacio Ridge in Taguig City.

“Iyong Basa-Guidote parang sa tingin namin nagiging iyon na ang kanilang kaisa-isang alas na tagapagligtas nila,” Quimbo said.
