Militant solons seek probe into ‘grand deception’ by Arroyo camp on ex-president’s state of health
MILITANT lawmakers are set to file a resolution calling for an investigation into the alleged conspiracy by the camp of Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to hide her true medical condition.
Led by Bayan Muna Reps. Teddy Casino and Neri Colmenares, the solons said that they want to determine if the doctors, spokespersons and lawyers participated in the alleged grand deception.
“We are set to file a House resolution. It is deplorable that these so-called professionals tried to fool the Filipino people on Gloria’s health. There was no need after all for GMA to travel to abroad for treatment because she was recovering fine,” Casino said.
Colmenares added that it is very clear that Arroyo wants to escape arrest and her camp hid from the public the real condition of her health.
Earlier, the doctors of Arroyo said that her condition is improving and she can be discharged anytime.
Her lawyers then requested the Pasay City Regional Trial Court to grant her house arrest.
Arroyo was charged with electoral sabotage before the Pasay City RTC in connection with the alleged cheating in the 2007 mid-term elections. A warrant of arrest was issued against her which prevented her from leaving the country.
Militant lawmakers are objecting to the “special treatment” given to her and insist she should be detained in jail.
“So with her trickery exposed Gloria must now be jailed, and additional charges can even be added like perjury. The Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the Supreme Court as well as the Philippine Medical Association can also move to discipline their dishonest members,” Casino and Colmenares said.
Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano decried “another desperate attempt to deceive the public and escape justice.”
Mariano said the government must not be lenient to Arroyo because she deserves to go to jail.
