TWO of the Big Three oil firms led in making the latest pump price adjustments which were hinted at a week earlier by the Department of Energy.
Pilipinas Shell and Chevron yesterday announced a 90-centavo increase per liter for gasoline and 70 centavos for diesel and kerosene effective midnight Tuesday.
Mitch Cruz, Corporate Communications officer of Pilipinas Shell, said the price adjustment was due to the price increase of oil products in the world market.
This recent increase was the third to be implemented this year by the various oil companies since August 15 when they announced a rollback of P1.50 per liter of gasoline and P1.70 for diesel.
Energy Undersecretary Jay Layug hinted at an impending oil price increase last week because of the uptrend on the world market.
Motorists were given the chance to gas up with the same price with Petron, Unioil and Total not yet increasing their respective oil products.
Quick to respond, militant Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) picketed the head offices of Petron along Ortigas Center in Pasig City to protest the latest price hike.
PISTON Secretary General George San Mateo believed that the 90 centavos and 70 centavos price increases on gasoline and diesel “is just the tip of the iceberg.”
He said more price increases are very possible in the coming days.
