Bartolome leads attempt to break Guinness record

THE Philippine National Police led by Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome and Director Alan LM Purisima of the National Capital Region Police Office will lead an attempt to break a Guinness Book of World Records on a running event  on Roxas Boulevard today which is expected to be participated by around 200,000 runners

Dubbed the ‘One River, One Run, a marathon event aimed at saving the Pasig River, Purisima said 500 runners from the NCRPO will join the program which starts at 4:30 a.m. along Roxas Boulevard leading to the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Bartolome said 2,000 police runners will join the event as part of the PNP core value of being a ‘makakalikasan’ or environment-friendly in support of the organizer of the marathon, the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.

The PNP marathoners will be joining the 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K run.

“Aside from a fun and cool physical fitness program for all PNP personnel and interested citizens, the PNP supports this Run for Pasig River as a gesture of our commitment to its pro-environmental program by putting the proceeds of this activity to be used for the continuing rehabilitation of the Pasig River,” said Gen. Bartolome.

Both Generals Bartolome and Purisima will join the VIP race to help supervise the security and safety of key personalities who will join the event.

“It is the NCRPO’s pride and  honor to join this worthy cause that will save the Pasig River that serves as vital water channel. We in the Philippine National Police are one with out people in this momentous event as we set to break another world record through this event, at the same time, to raise the country’s efforts to save the Pasig River,” Purisima said.

Around 500 runners representing the NCRPO will join the 3K event.

The NCRPO will send police contingents to secure the event venue which is expected to be participated in by 200,000 runners, the biggest among all running events in the country and set to break last year’s record of 150,000.

Motorists have been advised to avoid designated race routes starting at 12:01 a.m. today until 10 in the morning and take alternative routes to avoid gridlocks.

Areas included are the whole stretch of Roxas Boulevard starting from T.M. Kalaw and nearby areas leading to MOA.

“As we join this event, I want to remind the participants to stay vigilant at all times and call our attention immediately in case any untoward incident happens,” Purisima said.
