Fallen PDEA agents honored by PNEOA

FIVE agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency who were killed in the line of duty were honored by the Philippine Narcotics Enforcement Officers’ Association (PNEOA) last Monday.

PDEA Agents Pablo June Jala, Jesus Ebo, Armand Taneca, Rommel Alvarez and Edward Gautani were conferred the posthumous award by the PNEOA headed by Senator Vicente C. Sotto III who cited the heroic act committed by the five.

The awards were received by the families of the fallen anti-narcotics officers. In behalf of the PDEA officers and men, PDEA chair Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. also received an award for the agency’s role in strictly enforcing the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PDEA was cited for its commitment and dedication as the lead anti-drug agency in the campaign against dangerous drugs as provided in RA9165.

Sen. Sotto led the awarding during the grand launching of the PNEOA at the penthouse of Midas Hotel in Pasay City where Sen. Gregorio Honasan, the chairperson of the committee on public order and dangerous drugs and of the Senate’s congressional oversight committee on dangerous drugs, was the guest of honor.

Also present during the affair were Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Sen. Panfilo Lacson, Sen. Franklin Drilon,  Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. and Secretary Jesse Robredo of the Department of the Interior and Local Government .

Established in 1999, PNEOA is  patterned after the International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA). The group aims to bring together law enforcers from government agencies and civilian volunteers in combating the drug menace in the country.

“PDEA is very honored to have our efforts recognized by PNOEA.  It is indeed privilege to be considered in a league of ‘real men and women who help build the next generation’,” Usec. Gutierrez said, referring to a line in Sen. Honasan’s speech uplifting the contribution of law enforcers in shaping the society and providing safe and drug-free communities for the Filipino people.
