Stallions, Mariners prevail

MANUEL Luis Quezon University unleashed several long scoring splurges to bring down AMA University, 89-82, in the 16th NAASCU men’s basketball tournament  at the RTU gym in Boni Ave.,  Mandaluyong.

Handled by coach JR Manansala and manager Jomar Acuzar, the Stallions drew big numbers from Chris Bitoon, Nikko Lao and Jaymark Mallari to beat the Titans and improve to 5-3.

Bitoon, a 5-7 high-scoring guard from  Iloilo City,  scored 20 points  to lead the Quiapo-based team now being supported by New San Jose Builders.
   
Lao, a 6-3 forward, contributed 19 points and Mallari, a 5-11 guard,  added 17 points.
   
Miguel Magpantay carried the fight for the Titans with 29 points.
   
In the other game. Philippine Merchant Marine School defeated Colegio de San Lorenzo, 84-80, behind Donmark Matillano, Rocky Antonares and Darryl Margaja to improved its record to 3-4.
   
Matillano fired 21 points, Antonares had 19 and Margaja had 16 points for the Las Pinas City- based Mariners of coach Aldrin Morante.
