A 26-year-old man, said to be a notorious thief operating in Port Area, was shot dead by a security guard in the said area yesterday morning.
SPO2 Joseph Kabigting, of the Manila Police District (MPD)-Homicide Section, identified the fatality as Mark Anthony Polea, of 11th Atlanta corner Delgado Sts., Port Area, Manila. He died from three gunshot wounds in the head and body.
The security guard, Jose Acedillo Yamson, 44, of 309 Gate 17, Parola Compound, Tondo, Manila, is now under detention and investigation by the MPD.
It was learned that the shooting took place at around 8:40 a.m. at the corner of Railroad and 20th Streets in Port Area, Manila.
Yamson told probers that the suspect had previously robbed the establishment he is guarding.
Yesterday, the suspect came back but Yamson saw and recognized him so he chased him.
When he was able to corner the suspect, Yamson said he hit him with the butt of his gun and then shot him.
The suspect was still able to flee but Yamson reportedly pursued him and then shot him at close range. Polea, it was learned, was previously admitted to the National Center for Mental Health.
