DEFENSE chief Delfin Lorenzana defended his move to start preparations for the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Lorenzana said that they are just following the verbal directive of President Rodrigo Duterte allowing the burial of the late Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
“Whatever I think is immaterial, I am just implementing a presidential directive,” Lorenzana said when asked about his thoughts on the Marcos burial.
He said that based on the criteria, such as being a former president, a World War II veteran, and a Purple Heart or wounded personnel in combat awardee, he thinks Marcos deserves to be buried at the Libingan (LNMB).
“I have not included his medal for valor which is being questioned by some. Therefore, he is deserving to be buried at the LNMB,” said Lorenzana.
Arsenio Andolong, DND public affairs service director, echoed Lorenzana’s statement.
“Dito sa amin sa DND and AFP kung meron directive na coming from the commander in chief to implement an interment wala kaming magawa kundi sumunod…kapag in-order n’ya susunod kami,” he told reporters.
Lorenzana earlier ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines to undertake the necessary preparations for the burial of Marcos.
