We have always admired the Biazons as highly competent, dedicated, and patriotic public servants.
Muntinlupa Rep. Rodolfo Biazon has served with honor, valor, and distinction as a career military officer who rose to the top as Armed Forces chief.
In that long, illustrious career, Biazon, the soldier’s general, never soiled his uniform out of respect for his office and the trust of the people.
He has also distinguished himself as a discerning lawmaker in both chambers of Congress, active both in deliberations in plenary and committee proceedings as well as field work and investigations.
Although not having a military background like his dad, we do not expect anything less from the son who also made quite a mark as a lawmaker.
That he accepted the appointment to run what is probably one of the three most difficult and hopelessly corrupt agencies in government, speaks a lot about his moral courage -- to rush in where angels fear to tread, where others before him miserably failed and thoroughly disgraced.
The guy’s got balls, and we have nothing but respect – and prayers -- for him.
We borrow the words of Sen. Ralph Recto as we wish new Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon good luck on his new job:
The appointment of former Rep. Ruffy Biazon to the Bureau of Customs could be one of the best decisions made by P-Noy.
This latest increase in few good men in the BoC is the one increment that would be gladly embraced by the public.
Ruffy is an unblemished reinforcement to the few surviving good guys in the bureau that has become synonymous to thievery and corruption.
Kung kahandaan lang ang pag-uusapan, matagal nang naghanda si Ruffy laban sa katiwalian at kabuktutan - having been raised by a battle-tested soldier and for completing his own tour of duty in the lower House with a sterling record that earned him a slot in the President's Senate slate.
Ruffy is the son of a well-loved general, to whom he made a promise not to tarnish the family name that was built on solid-rock loyalty, discipline, and bravery amid adversity.
The barong-clad criminals and their cohorts in the BoC may not roll out the red carpet, but Ruffy could rely on his army of covert allies that had prayed that some sense and decency should finally descend on the bureau.
Godspeed Ruffy! Congratulations to the President for a fine choice.
Our thoughts, exactly.

The Aquino administration’s economic mantra is an inclusive economic growth where no one is supposed to be left behind. It has a nice ring to it, but it is not an original idea. In fact, it is an avowed development policy first espoused by President Ramos’ vision of an economic... Read more

To insure promptness. That’s one definition of “tip”. If you are in the food and beverage service business, tipping is a customary gesture of appreciation or gratitude. It is offered, never demanded.
