DEATH threats hound Chief Public Attorney Persida V. Rueda Acosta.
The Public Attorney’s Office chief told entertainment reporters making a social call she gets a death threat almost every day but she leaves her fate to God.
Like Daniel who was saved in the lion’s den by an angel sent by God, Acosta said she relies on divine protection to keep her safe. But she obviously believes in the saying God helps those who help themselves. “Pray lang ako. At saka nag-aaral akong bumaril,” she said. She has been a gun owner for about five years.
Acosta also said her advocacy for equal access to justice for the poor should convince her would-be assassins to reconsider harming her.
Despite the death threats, she is sticking to her post. She still has much to do as PAO chief, she said.
She confided that she never dreamt of someday heading PAO or even becoming a lawyer back when she was just simple Persida selling banana cue, yema, sago and gulaman.
She brushed aside persistent rumors about her interest in politics saying she will follow “the dictates of the Holy Spirit on her destiny” after PAO.
“Wala sa isip ko iyan,” she said
She likewise dismissed calls from some sectors for her to seek the post of resigned Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez. The job of Ombudsman is very challenging and difficult, she said. Efren Montano
