More Ampatuan victims dug up

Two more skeletal remains were unearthed in a remote village in Maguindanao believed to be victims of the so-called “Chainsaw Massacre” allegedly perpetrated by the feared Ampatuan clan.

For Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, the discovery means more charges will be filed against members of the Ampatuan family.

De Lima said government agents dug up the remains in a burial site in Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak, some five kilometers away from the mansions of the Ampatuan clan.

She said the remains possibly belonged to Murad Badjunaid and Harod Abdullah, both supporters of former Maguindanao Gov. Zacaria Candao, a political rival of the Ampatuans.

“One of the skeletal remains was placed inside a sack and the body was apparently chopped, while the other one was outside the sack,” she recalled.

“The remains have been turned over to the NBI medico legal officer at Gen. Santos City and that would be transmitted to the NBI main office for forensic exam,” she said.

Last February, authorities also recovered two sets of skeletal remains also believed to be victims of the Ampatuan clan’s chainsaw killings in the province.
