FOR someone who wants to uplift the welfare of the poor, Sen. Jamby Madrigal does not know how much a kilo of “galunggong” costs.

Madrigal drew jeers when she admitted she does not know the price of galunggong or salted egss. She said she was a vegetarian.

”I think it’s about P60,” she answered when asked how much the so-called poor man’s fish cost.

“I cannot answer that. I will be honest because I’m a vegetarian. I don’t eat fish.” Asked about the price of salted eggs, she replied “Hindi po ako kumakain ng itlog.”

She also said she regrets getting actress Judy Ann Santos to endorse her senatorial candidacy in 2004.

A panel member reminded her that she used a celebrity in her campaign after she criticized Sen. Manny Villar for using children in his campaign jingles and political advertisements.

“I agree. But now, I’ve seen the folly of my ways and I will not repeat that because I don’t believe that we should perpetuate lies that are perpetuated by thick budget,” she said.

When asked if she has anything good to say about Villar, Madrigal answered: “Maganda ang pagtina ng buhok niya.” Villar, who was three seats away, smiled.
