Alcano shines

Former double world champion Ronnie Alcano provided the spark for the Philippines in the World Ten Ball Championship Last 64 stage at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Alcano made short work of compatriot Demosthenes Pulpul, 9-2, to advance to the round-of-32 of the biggest pool event for men this year.

Alcano raced to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in pulling off  a surprisingly easy one-sided victory.

Alcano’s win was the only bright spot so far for the Filipinos.

Jeff de Luna and Antonio Gabica, two Filipino players who went on undefeated in the double elimination stage, were eliminated in Day Four.

Gabica lost to Manuel Pereira of Portugal, 9-8, in a match the Filipino could have won.

De Luna, on the other hand, just couldn’t get his game going against former Philippine Open Pool champion Ricky Yang Indonesia, who won convincingly, 9-3.
