THREE women believed to be undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and victims of human trafficking were nabbed by Immigration officers at the Zamboanga port while on board a ship bound for Malaysia.
BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the women, whose names are withheld owing to a provision in the anti-human trafficking law prohibiting the public disclosure of human trafficking victim, were offloaded last April 28 from the M/V Danica Joy which was bound for Sandakan, Sabah. The women, David said, had no passports or travel documents and one of them was even found to have been previously offloaded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last April 27, after she was profiled to be an OFW disguised as a tourist, or what is known as a “tourist worker.”
BI officials gathered that the woman’s recruiter, identified as a certain Lyn, allegedly instructed the victim to fly to Zamboanga the next day so she could join the two other women in leaving the country via the ship where they were caught by BI operatives.
