A 19-year-old female student was caught in possession of over P40,000 in cash and valuables she reported stole during a wedding reception she attended in Quezon City Sunday night.
Police identified the suspect as Velanie Peña, of Cavite City, a student of Cavite State University.
She was arrested at around 6:30 p.m. during a wedding reception at the Patio Ibarra restaurant on Quezon Avenue in Bgy. South Triangle.
Found in her possession were items that were stolen from Delia Robedillo, 57, that included a video camera worth P 20,000, digital camera, P 10,000, a mobile phone, and a wallet containing P8,000.
Police said both the suspect and the victim were guests at the same wedding reception being held at the restaurant that night.
Robedillo told police that she left her bag containing the stolen items to her son when she went to the comfort room.
However, her son left the bag unattended on their table because he was called by the emcee to participate in a mini-game.
When the victim returned to their table, the bag was already missing.
Robedillo informed the management immediately that her bag was lost.
Security guards found the bag in the possession of Peña, who was brought to the Kamuning Police Station. Robedillo did not file a case against her but she reprimanded her. Melnie Ragasa-JiImena
