MANILA Mayor Alfredo Lim will lead the Chinese community in celebrating the Chinese New Year on Sunday.

One of the highlights of the celebration is the traditional dragon parade around the Chinatown area on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The parade will start from Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz on Ongpin Street and will pass Sta. Cruz, Dasmariñas and Quintin Paredes Streets before going back to Ongpin Street.

Lim said more policemen will be deployed to Chinatown to protect both residents and visitors from lawless elements.

Starting tomorrow,  Chinatown will be filled with activities highlighting the Chinese New Year festivity.

Colorful lion dances by the Wong Lion and Dance Group will be featured every hour in front of the Eng Bee Tin Bakeshop.

EBT bakeshop owner Gerie Chua will sponsor the lion dances from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. He said there will also be tikoy and hopia eating contests.
