P-Noy nixes hike in SSS contributions

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino does not see the need to raise the Social Security System contributions of private employees.

Aquino said there are no reports suggesting that SSS funds are depleting.

“Hindi pa nagre-report sa atin ang either GSIS or SSS on the necessity. I will be calling their attention to it na bakit me discussions? Anong bang level ng discussions bago n’yo ako abisuhan,” the President said.

“And so far wala pa namang nagsasabi sa ating nasa peligro yung kanilang pondo,” he said.

However, the President said it is important to address issues regarding SSS alleged bad investments and to keep the status of the state-run pension fund healthy.

SSS president Emilio de Quiros, Jr. earlier said they plan to raise the contribution rate by 0.6 percent to 11 percent of the monthly salary, which will be equally shared by employers and workers.

He said the hike will increase the actuarial life of SSS by several more years and raise benefits for its members.
