MANILA Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday led the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the “Battle for Manila.”

Themed “Courage and Determination,” the celebration was highlighted by a wreath-laying ceremony and tribute to the heroes of the one-month battle in 1945.

Lim called on the youth to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers by voting wisely in the coming election.

After the ceremony, city administrator Jesus Mari Marzan led guests to a photo exhibit at the Freedom Hall and at the Museo ng Maynila.

The exhibit featured rare photos of devastation incurred by the city during WW II. The exhibit will be transferred to the Bulwagang Rodriguez at   city hall’s second floor to accommodate more viewers.

The ceremony was attended by top embassy officials, including Philippine Ambassador to Chile Consuelo Reyes-Puyat.

Among those who offered wreaths were Manuel Quezon III, great grandson of the late President Manuel Quezon and representatives from the National Historical Institute, Manila Historical and Heritage Commission, Philippine Veterans’ Affairs Office, Wha Chi 48th Squadron Veterans’ Post, American Legion,  Hunters ROTC Guerilla Association, Armed Forces and Division of City Schools-Manila.
