MANILA Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday ordered the inspection of all buildings in the city as precaution against possible occurrence of a strong earthquake. Lim told city official Melvin Balagot to coordinate with owners and administrators of buildings found weak or unsafe for human occupancy. He said defective buildings should be repaired to prevent condemnation. “We cannot allow the continued existence of any edifice that poses risks to the lives and limbs not only of the building’s occupants but innocent passersby as well,” Lim said. He ordered Balagot to prioritize over 100 public elementary and high schools and government buildings in the city. |
