MORE than 700 motorcycles and four-wheeled motor vehicles were intercepted yesterday by combined agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group and the Land Transportation Office in line with its stepped-up enforcement of the Helmet Law, the ‘no plate, no travel’ policy and other provisions of the traffic code.
PNP-HPG director Supt. Leonardo Espina said the drivers of 639 motorcycles and 101 motor vehicles were issued Temporary Operator’s Permit by the Rizal Provincial Highway Patrol Team led by Senior Inspector Arnel Pagulayan and Inspector Arthur Cortez and the LTO Regional Office 4-A led by Sofronio Alvis following the operations that started at 7 in the morning.
According to Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A chief Supt. Arnel B. Escobal, all available motorcycles and patrol cars are being used by his men in the intensified enforcement of the law particularly aimed at arresting the presence of motorcycle-riding criminals and seeing to it that lives and limbs will be protected by requiring all motorcycle riders to use standard crash helmets.
On Friday, more than 30 motor vehicles were also intercepted by the Rizal PHPT operatives for similar violations.
