SIXTEEN of the 47 detained policemen believed involved in the gruesome Maguindanao massacre were separated from their co-accused following reports that they were being harassed for expressing desire to turn state witness.

Quezon City Jail Annex warden Chief Insp. Ermilito Moral said the 16 policemen asked Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo to separate them from the other suspects to avoid “personal contacts.”

De Lima, in turn, requested the Supreme Court and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to move the 16 policemen to another jail facility, possibly  the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

However, Moral said the only thing he could do was  transfer the 16 lawmen to another detention cell since their supposed application to turn state witness is still being processed.

For the meantime, the 16 are being held at an adjacent cell.

Moral believes no harassment was done among the 16 police detainees saying “sabay sabay nga silang nagsisimba ng limang beses isang araw kahit noong hindi pa sila nakahiwalay.”
