3 killers of journalist get 21-year jail terms

THREE of the four men, who robbed and shot dead former tourism official and journalist Nixon Kua, have been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt by a Makati Regional Trial Court.

Judge Elpidio Calis of the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 133, in a 72-page decision,  found John Rey Cortez, Noel Garcia and Darwin Saniano guilty of robbery with homicide for  killing Nixon and frustrated homicide for the shooting of his brother, Allyxon Kua.
   
The three accused were meted six years up to 14 years in prison for the robbery with homicide case, while four years to seven years for frustrated homicide.
   
Cortez, Garcia and Saniano were also ordered to indemnify the Kuas’ heirs of P75,000.
   
Another accused, Michael Molino, who allegedly served as lookout, was acquitted.
   
Kua, 49, a former reporter/columnist of The Philippine Star/Pang Masa (PM) and former Philippine Tourism Authority general manager, was shot by the robbers in the face while parking his car at a subdivision in Calamba, Laguna, in July 2012.
