THE Regional Trial Court of Taguig found guilty a cousin of  former Taguig Mayor Freddie Tinga and said to be a member of the notorious Tinga drug syndicate and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Judge Antonio Olivete, of RTC Branch 267, in a 12-page decision, said the court found Joel Tinga guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the crime of selling shabu or drug trafficking.

Besides life imprisonment, Tinga was also ordered by the court to pay the fine of P500,000. The court also directed Taguig City Jail officials to transfer him to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.
Records show that Tinga was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), then headed by retired Gen. Dionisio Santiago, following a buy-bust operation.
The records also showed that the P60,000 marked money was recovered from Tinga in exchange for 10 grams of shabu as well a huge stash of illegal drugs ready for distribution.
PDEA records showed that Tinga is a member of the so-called Tinga drug syndicate that has been busted by police authorities.  The other members, who have been arrested and facing drug charges, included Elisa, Henry, Joana, Fernando, Allan Carlos, Alberto and Bernardo, all bearing the surname Tinga.
