Blood Type Diet

(Conclusion)

DOCTOR Peter D’Adamo’s concept of Blood Type diet is based on an individual’s genetic response to environmental conditions.

As many would put it “nasa dugo lang yan”, what a person eat will reflect on his health condition - allergies may pop up, or certain foods may cause asthma, headache or nausea, heart disease, hypertension, kidney problem.

D’Adamo believes that blood type, with its digestive and immune specificity, is a window to a person’s probable susceptibility to or power over disease.

* Type AB. Sometimes with weak stomach and sometimes fond of meat. They can’t metabolize meat efficiently because of low stomach acid. Chicken can irritate their blood and digestive tracts. Tofu is a good protein supplement  but they should go slow on nuts and seeds.

Type ABs do well on grains, even wheat, but keep in mind that the inner kernel of the wheat grain is highly acid forming in the muscle. A diet rich in rice is better than pasta.

Since this group has a weaker immune system, eating vegetables high in phytochemicals and fruits high in alkaline can help balance the grains that are acidic to the muscle tissues. Tomatoes do not impose any ill effects.

* Type O. Individuals in this group thrive  on animal protein. Unlike the other blood types, Type O’s muscle tissue is slightly on the acid side. They can efficiently digest and metabolize meat because they tend to have high stomach-acid content. This depends on the use of lean, chemical-free meats, poultry, and fish.

The leading factor in weight gain for Type Os is the gluten found in wheat germ and whole wheat products, which interferes with insulin efficiency and slows down metabolic rate. Another factor of weight gain is the low levels of thyroid hormone or unstable thyroid functions, which also cause metabolic problems. They should avoid foods that inhibit thyroid hormone like cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard green.

Eat more vegetables that are high in Vitamin K, which helps the clotting factor which is weak in Type Os. Because of the high acidity stomach, they should eat fruits of alkaline nature such as berries and plums.
