YOU may be craving for something sweet today, and crunchy chicken or delicious barbecue or sisig the next day. Whatever your cravings, the bottomline is either you crave for salt or for fats.
* Cravings for salt. You may need some stress relief. Your constant search for a salt fix could signal that your adrenal glands, which pump adrenaline and other hormones into your blood when you’re feeling anxious, have been working so hard that they’re temporarily exhausted.
To keep stress in check, try exercise, meditation, or just say no.
* Cravings for fat. Eating sweets and simple carbohydrates can lead to the infamous sugar crash that leaves you craving for more. Consuming fat has a similar self-perpetuating effect. Eating fatty foods stimulates the brain to produce peptides that make you crave for more fat.
A recent study at the Scripps Research Institute, in Jupiter, Florida, showed that rats who were fed high-fat foods like bacon, icing and hamburger began eating more and more, developing an addictive behavior. The mice later refused nutritious food when it was offered.
If you have these urges for chips, fight this away by eating plenty of lean protein and low-fat dairy products, which will make you feel more satisfied.
