THE Charge d’ Affaires of the United States Embassy in Manila yesterday expressed optimism that US-Philippines bilateral ties will continue to be strong with the election of Donald Trump as the 45th US president.
Charge d’ Affaires Michael S. Klecheski, who was interviewed by reporters during the 2016 U.S. Election Watch at the Grand Sunset Pavilion of Sofitel Philippine Plaza said “obviously we can’t say what would be the policy of the next administration, that’s impossible, but what we care trying to say that with great confidence, is that our relationship over the years, over the decades has been extremely strong, extremely close.”
He explained the US and Philippines have been allies for decades and have worked together in many areas.
“So in that sense, whoever wins in this election, the country, our country will value the ties with the Philippines as it has over all these many decades and that Ii can say in full confidence,” Klecheski said.
Republican Trump defeated his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton when he won in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
