CAMP Olivas, Pampanga -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has ordered the conversion of the mega shabu laboratory at the foothills of Mt. Arayat into a rehabilitation center for drug pushers and users.

The President, accompanied by Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, made the order during his visit to the shabu laboratory in Bgy. Lacquios, Arayat, Pampanga, last Tuesday.

Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino, Police Regional Office 3 director, said President Duterte also ordered the sequestration and immediate disposal of all the equipment inside the gated and high-fenced compound unless found to be useful for industrial purposes.

The compound was discovered by Arayat officials and police last September 22 and found multi-million pesos worth of apparatus inside.

Police said the laboratory can produce 400 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu daily. It is described as the biggest and largest shabu laboratory found by authorities in the country.

A Chinese national, identified as Hong Wenzhong, 39, native of Fukien, China, was arrested but his four other compatriots were able to escape by climbing a ladder and jumping over the concrete fence at the back of the compound.

Aquino said that PNP PRO3, together with partner agencies, continues to conduct relentless anti-drug operations to wipe out all forms of illegal drugs in order to achieve its quest for a drug-free Central Luzon.
