CLARK Freeport Zone, Pampanga -- A 68-year-old Chinese-American tourist was held by airport officials here Sunday night after airport and customs personnel allegedly found 2.4 kilos of suspected cocaine worth P16 million inside his luggage.
Chief Supt. Aaron N. Aquino said Allan Soo Hoo, a US citizen with Chinese descent, was about to board an Emirates Airline flight to Cebu after arriving at the airport from Dubai past 11 p.m. when he was arrested.
Aquino said Hoo was immediately detained at the holding area of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency here for questioning.
He said the illegal drugs was allegedly discovered by airport personnel hidden inside the compartment of the bag he was carrying during the inspection of hand carried bags of passengers at the airport.
Alex Cauguiran, officer-in-charge of Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), lauded members of Clark International Airport-Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (CRK-IADITG) for the discovery of the alleged contraband.
Cauguiran said the CRK-IADITG is a replicated effort in addressing transnational crime of illegal drug smuggling using the country’s airport as entry.
The inter-agency collaboration is an offshoot of the Ninoy International Airport Inter-Drug Interdiction Task Group which was proven effective in monitoring the entries of illegal drugs.
PDEA 3 Director Emerson Margate Aquino said, through the inter-agency collaboration, they continue to monitor the activities of international drug syndicates using the Clark airport to smuggle illegal drugs into the country.
Citing the arrest of Hoo, Margate said the movement of the suspect was closely monitored by their counterparts from Dubai up to his destination in Clark. He said it is called controlled delivery.
