Ai Ai de las Alas Ai Ai de las Alas

IT’S common knowledge that Ai Ai de las Alas and Kris Aquino had a falling out by the time that Ai Ai decided to move to GMA-7 and leave ABS-CBN. At the presscon of “Sunday PinaSaya” for its first anniversary, Ai was asked how she feels now that there are talks that her ex-”friendship” Kris is also joining GMA-7?

“You know, 26 years na ako in showbiz, bukas na bukas ang buhay ko sa inyo ever since,” she says. “But for the first time in my life, hindi po ako sasagot diyan sa tanong na 'yan kasi marami namang katanungan ang walang sagot. Example, bakit hamburger ang tawag sa hamburger, e wala naman itong ham? Ang giraffe, bakit mahaba ang leeg. So 'yung tanong nyo, isama nyo na po diyan. O, di ba, pampa-good vibes. Winner. Pang-beauty queen ang answer ko.”

Did she have an inkling one year ago that “Sunday PinaSaya” will beat “ASAP” which has been on for 20 years every weekend now? “Wala.

Her co-stars in “Sunday PinaSaya” are Marian Rivera, Alden Richards, Barbie Forteza, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Valeen Montenegro, Julie Anne San Jose, Jerald Napoles and Joey Paras. In its second year, more stars are added into the show: the love team of Ruru Madrid and Gabbi Garcia, Andre Paras, Gladys Guevarra, Mike Pekto Nacua, Boobsie, Atak, Lovely Abella and Kim Last. Their two-part 1st anniversary show will be shown on September 4 and 11 and they’ll be going all over the country from Ilocos to Davao, introduce a new dance craze and have big time guests like Maine Mendoza and Aegis Band.

AT the "Sunday Pinasaya" presscon, some press people were turned off by Andre Paras unsightly and unbecoming full beard. “Mukha naman siyang terorista,” says one writer.

“At saka bini-build up siyang heartthrob, pang-matinee idol, pero bakit gusto niyang maging mukha siyang character actor?”  says one newshen.
Andre said it’s part of his character in “Encantadia” as Wahid, played by his dad before in the original “Enca”, where he gets to do scene with “Game of Thrones” star Conan Stevens. “I’m really thankful to be working again kasi ang tagal ko nang bakante,” he says. “My last show was still ‘That’s My Amboy’, which was five months ago pa. While waiting for my next project, I enrolled in a film school and naging focused muna ako sa film studies kasi film is really my passion. I’m interested in telling a story, kung paano ang pagdidirek. Siguro, someday, I will be a director or a cinematographer.”

Kim Last, a grand finalist of “That’s My Bae” in “Eat Bulaga”, is happy to be part of “Sunday Pinasaya”. “Being a part of the show is a big challenge for me,” he says. “I have to show that I really have talent.”
Kim is 19 years old. He grew up in London, studied government politics in Chelsea University and is still struggling with his Tagalog. Some folks say he should have changed his name as there are now too many Kims in showbiz. Aside from Kuya Kim Atienza and Kim Chiu, two more Kims just made their presence felt: Kim Domingo in “Juan Happy Love Story” and Kim Molina in “Camp Sawi”. There’s also TV host Kim Jones, the wife of Jericho Rosales.

HAVE you watched the senate hearing on extra-judicial killing in the war against drugs? No doubt that the one who profited the most from it is none of the grandstanding politicians who are doing the investigation but it’s the PNP Chief Ronald de la Rosa aka Bato. He has such a winning personality on TV with his fantastic sense of humor and an aura of sincerity, no pretensions.
Totoong tao ang dating niya. He is no doubt very courageous but compassionate. The sooner a TV company ask him to do a series on his true to life heroic exploits, the better for their ratings because Bato is every inch a winner. He’s very popular as the people just love him because of his no-nonsense attitude and disposition.

Actually, he’s at war not only with drug pushers and drug lords but even against his own members in the PNP and also politicians who are drug protectors. He was so disappointed when he learned that there are so many cops involved in the drug protection racket. So he’s facing a war in both fronts and we can only pray for his safety so that he’d succeed in routing the drug problem.

ONE of the most promising new stars of GMA Talent Development and Management Department is Kurt Kendrick. He’s 21 and stands 5’11”.  He has done TV and print modeling and is now trying acting on TV. He also sings and dances. “I also love to cook and eat,” he says. “I can eat all kinds of pasta. Kahit for one year, spaghetti lang ang kakainin ko, masaya na ako.”
He lives with his mom, who works at a call center, and his older brother, a working student. He has played the young Gabby Concepcion (they somewhat look alike) in “Poor Senorita” and he has also appeared in an episode of “Magpakailanman” with Buboy Villar. Given the right breaks, we have no doubt Kurt can make it big in showbiz.
