IF YOU regularly exercise hard, standing or sitting for long hours, and wearing high heels (for women), these may cause muscle cramp.
Likewise, depleting body minerals especially calcium, magnesium and potassium can also cause stiff or weak muscles.
People taking statins, anticonvulsants, antihistamines, estrogens, and supplements or drugs for osteoporosis may experience the side effects of muscle cramps. Even blocked or narrowed arteries that decrease blood flow to the legs can also cause this kind of pain.
To avoid this, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, and eat foods rich in the electrolytes calcium, potassium, and magnesium, such as leafy greens, bananas, and beans.
Choose low, well-supported shoes to avoid straining the calves. Stretch your legs after walking, exercising, sitting still for a long period, or after wearing high heels.
