Take a healthy siesta

MULTITASKING and urban living is no doubt very stressful. That’s why you need to give yourself a time to recharge.

The ideal hours of sleep are at least seven to eight hours. Skimping on this can have a major impact on your health. Women who slept less than five hours a day can twice likely to suffer from hypertension. Previous studies also linked lack of sleep to weight gain and a weakened immune system.

If you’ve been short on sleep, take a nap. A study found that people who took a short daily nap had a lower rate of dying from heart disease than did those who never snoozed during the day.

Take a daily 20-minute siesta in the afternoon to revive yourself or take a quick catnap when you get home from work to counteract the effects of lost sleep.

If you fail to catch on sleep, reduce your meat intake and substitute it with fish. Eat fish twice a week. Fatty fish, like salmon, trout, and sardines, are packed with DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids, which have been found in many studies to reduce the risk of heart disease and boost the immune system.

Ask your doctor about the right dosage of fish-oil supplements for you.
