AS dengue cases continue to rise, a global company offers help to impede breeding grounds of dengue carrying mosquitoes in public schools where cases of dengue usually spread victimizing innocent school children.
Rod Arellano, country manager of NCH Phil., a wholly owned subsidiary of US based NCH Corporation based in Texas, said they had formulated pesticides extracted from plants and are considered safe to humans and to animals.
“We would like to help government, in our own little way, to combat this dreaded disease that has claimed many innocent lives, traumatized families and has troubled government and society at a very alarming proportion,” Arellano said.
Based on data released by the Department of Health, the National Capital Region posted the highest number of dengue cases - Quezon City with 3,034 cases; Manila, 1,093 cases; Caloocan, 1,270 cases; Valenzuela, 782 cases; and Pasig, 707 cases. Students were advised to wear long pants and sleeves inside the school premises to avoid low-flying Aedes Aegypti (dengue) mosquito.
Arellano said they will offer the “green” pesticide to a limited number of selected public schools in and around Metro Manila.
Extracts from Chrysanthemum called Pyrethrum is proven effective in killing insects.
Pyrethrum is on US Environment Protection Agency's Permanent Food Tolerance List. Arellano said the Pyrafog-S is a residual insecticide with a powerful broad spectrum formulation that kills mosquitoes and other crawling insects on contact and by ingestion.
It is registered for use against mosquitoes in swamps, marshes, outdoor residential and recreational areas. Pyrafog-S has very low toxicity levels to humans and the environment which is an ideal use in combating the dengue virus in the congested communities of Metro Manila.
The NCH Philippines Inc. team is composed of chemists, scientists and experts dedicated in their quest to be known as a name committed to environmentally safe product improvements and creating innovative cleaning solutions.
