Drunk NBI agent held for gun, ammo

CAMP Gen. Malvar, Batangas -- An agent of the National Bureau of Investigation was arrested by authorities after firing shots at a group of men in a drinking session in Rectos Apartment, Levitown Subd., Lipa City, Friday night.

Acting Batangas police director Senior Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag identified the victims as Ellis Roy Nacional delos Reyes, 27; Jessie Louie Espiritu Ledesma, 29, both call center supervisors and residents of Door 2, Rectos Apartment, Levitown Subd., Bgy. Marauoy, Lipa City; Jasper Cyrus Laguio Dalantar, 23, of San Pioquinto, Malvar, Batangas; Josiel Aurean Lipat Manalang, 19, of Adelina Homes Subd., Bgy. Ma-taas na Lupa, Lipa City; Joana Marie Manantan Esquillo, 28, of Bgy. Poblacion 1, Sta. Rita, Batangas; Zindelyn Malijana Pañoso, 26, of Poblacion, Ibaan, Batangas, all call center agents; Kevin Mario Macahiya Leonor, 23, of Bgy. Trapiche, Tanauan City; John Lawrence Lipat Manalang, 18, of Adelina Homes Subd., Bgy. Ma-taas na Lupa, Lipa City; and Michael Richard Leo-cadio.
Cabanag identified the suspect, who was immediately arrested by a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team,  as Benjamin Mercado Japlit Jr., 54, married, NBI agent assigned at the main office in Manila. He resides in Pureza, Sta. Mesa, Manila. His provincial address is Door 4, Rectos Apartment, Levitown Subd., Bgy. Marauoy, Lipa City.
Bgy. Maraouy officials reported the incident to the Lipa City Police Station at 9:47 p.m. Friday.
SPO1 Ronilo Canaman Balita and PO2 Homer Mercado, officers-on-case, said that at 9:30 p.m. Friday, the victims had a drinking session at Door 2 of Rectos Apartment when the suspect, who was under the influence of liquor arrived on board his Toyota Altis (VEX-838) car.
One of the victims guided the suspect in parking his vehicle but the latter got irked, drew a handgun and shot Delos Reyes twice but missed, investigators said.
Out of fear, the victims rushed inside the apartment but the suspect fired repeatedly inside the room where the victims were hiding.
The suspect kicked the door of the apartment several times but was pacified by the owner of the apartment, Balita said.
The suspect was later arrested by responding SWAT team and detained at the police holding cell.
Recovered at the scene were 11 empty shell casings, two deformed slugs for cal. .45 and two live bullets for cal. .22.
The report said that authorities found inside the suspect’s vehicle two short firearms and several empty shells.
