PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Isidro S. Lapeña yesterday cited officers and men of the agency who were responsible for confiscating nearly P800 million worth of shabu and cocaine in separate drug operations since last October.
“I’m offering my congratulations to our anti-drug units for a job well done. But as we always say, we are only as good as our last accomplishment and we can do better, we can do more,” Lapeña said after giving plaques of recognition to concerned PDEA officers and men.
The PDEA Special Enforcement Service headed by Director Ismael Fajardo Jr. was commended for the major role they played in the dismantling of a major shabu laboratory in Maharlika Highway, Cauayan City, Isabela last October 23. Seized in the drug facility were an estimated P500 million worth of chemicals being used in the manufacture of shabu and various drug manufacturing equipment.
On the other hand, the PDEA National Capital Region Office under Director Wilkins Villanueva and the PDEA Intelligence and Investigation Service headed by Director Randy Pedroso were cited for their involvement in an anti-drugs operation in Masangkay St., Binondo, Manila last October 26, which resulted in the arrest of five big-time drug traffickers and the recovery of five kilos of high-grade shabu worth P25 million and an estimated 15 kilos of essential chemicals.
The PDEA-NCR was also commended for arresting two notorious drug dealers in Metro Manila during a buy-bust in Tambacan St., Sta. Cruz, Manila last November 4. Seized from the suspects were 20 kilograms of shabu worth P100 million.
On the other hand, officers and men of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group which was formed to monitor the entry and exit of illegal drugs into the country’s premier airport were cited for arresting six foreign nationals and a Filipino student who attempted to sneak in a total of P221.5 million worth of cocaine from abroad.
The suspects were arrested in separate interdiction operations last October 2,5,15 and 17 and last November 14.
The PDEA Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional Office under Director Edgar Apalla was recognized for confiscating over a kilo of shabu worth P5 million during an operation in Agus 2, Bgy. Pawak, Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur last October 21. Two notorious drug dealers in Mindanao were arrested in the sting.
The PDEA Regional Office 7 headed by Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz was cited for two major buy-busts last October which resulted in the recovery of some P10 million worth of shabu. The first operation was conducted last October 27 which led to the arrest of six drug personalities and the seizure of a kilo of shabu worth P5 million in Bgy. Sambag 2 in Cebu City.
The following day, the same PDEA team arrested a known drug dealer in an operation inside the Cebu Business Park which resulted in the confiscation of one more kilo of the drug.
