NGO backs Lim’s clean, green campaign

A non-government organization has expressed support to the ‘clean and green’ campaign of Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim by beautifying a park in Malate, Manila.

During the formal turnover of ornamental seedlings, Lim, who was joined by former Miss International and now Manila Historical and Heritage Commision vice chair Gemma Cruz-Araneta, thanked the Community Chest Foundation, Inc.  (CCFI) headed by its president Atty. Pablo Ronquillo, for taking the initiative in ‘adopting’ the Plaza Olivia Salamanca at the corner of T.M. Kalaw and Taft Avenue by putting plants there.

As he received the donated plants, Lim also called on the barangay officials and those spending the night there to help maintain cleanliness and order at all times.

Even Col. Mariano Tumalad, commander of the Manila Police District Station 5, was directed by Lim to also assist in maintaining the said plaza and the newly-planted trees to ensure their growth, along with personnel from the parks bureau led by  its director Engr. Deng Manimbo and Giovani Evangelista, and department of public services chief ret. Col. Carlos Baltazar.

Lim lauded the CCFI for its support to the city government’s projects as he expressed hope that other NGOs will emulate them.

The CCFI has told the mayor that aside from Plaza Salamanca, other parks will also be adopted by them in the hope of soon ‘greening’ the entire city and providing the residents beautiful plazas where they can either rest or stroll in.
