THE sensitive issue of premarital sex was discussed at the presscon of “The Bride & The Lover” that opens today in theatres nationwide. Lovi Poe’s character, Vanessa, is very conservative. She will surrender her virginity to Paulo Avelino only after marriage. Because of this Paulo was easily seduced by Lovi’s best friend, Jennylyn Mercado. The cast was asked about their views on sex before marriage.
“They say it’s the modern age, uso na ang sex muna bago kasal,” says Ahron Villena, who plays Lovi’s lover after her breakup with Paulo. “Hindi na issue sa’kin ang virginity basta mahal mo ang babae, but I prefer pa ring makasal muna kami bago mag-sex.”
“People have different views and everyone has his own stand on the matter,” says Carla Dunareaunu, the girlfriend of Christian Bautista who’s being introduced in the film. “Whatever you choose to do with the person you’re with, I don’t think anyone has the right to judge you about it.”
“Yes, I agree with Carla,” says Lovi. “We belong to a different generation now and I think nobody has the right to judge anyone. It’s your choice.”
“I come from a Catholic family so dapat, marriage before the act,” says Paulo. But as we all know, this didn’t happen in his case as he now has a son with LJ Reyes but they’re not married. “Kasi yun nga, people say life is too short, so i-experience mo na lahat as you don’t know kung kailan ka mawawala.”
“Well, alam naman ng lahat ang buhay ko,” says Jennylyn. “It’s an open book. May anak na ako. So alam na nila ‘yung sagot,” she laughs. “But kung maibabalik ko lang ang panahon, siguro... ahh.... I’d say my life would be a bad example kasi I’d now go for marriage before sex. Dapat lang talaga, turuan ang mga kabataan ngayon ng tamang bagay. Ng prevention. Kasi lahat tayo, curious, nai-in love. Kaya ang anak ko, tuturuan ko siya, lalo na ‘pag babae. Ayokong maipit siya sa isang tao, maaksidente, mabuntis.”
Everyone was all ears when it was Hayden Kho’s turn to speak. “Coming from me, wow, si Hayden, marriage before sex. Yan ang stand ko. Before. But then, nagkamali ako, e. So I learned my lesson. Kung ngayon mo ako tatanungin, dapat talaga, marriage before sex. That’s my stand now.”
And what about the film’s director, Joel Lamangan? “Downpayment muna before sex,” and he laughs so loud.
DEREK WANTS TO KEEP 'KIDLAT' COSTUME
IT’S the finale week of “Kidlat” and Derek Ramsay wants to thank the viewers who made it one of TV5’s highest rating shows so far. As he exits, Derek will introduce the character that Eula Caballero plays in “Cassandra Warrior Angel”, which will replace Derek in its time slot starting on Monday. A special docu primer on the making of “Cassandra” will be shown this Sunday evening.
Derek says “Kidlat” will always be a special part of his life and career so he’s asking TV5 to just give to him the costume he used in it even if it’s now torn and tattered.
“I’d like to display it sa bagong bahay ko in Sta. Rosa,” he says. “’Kidlat’ helped a lot para makilala ako ng kid viewers, kasi hindi naman nila napanood noon ang mature films na ginawa ko like ‘No Other Woman’ and ‘Secret Affair.’ With ‘Kidlat,’ kahit saan ako magpuntang probinsiya, kids recognize me.”
Derek was linked to both his leading ladies in the show, Nadine Samonte and Ritz Azul. But like what we suspected, it’s all just part of the promo. “Ayoko na ng girlfriend na taga-showbiz,” he says.
As we all know, his relationship with Angelica Panganiban ended badly and she seems to be bitter about it up to now. Derek never answered back any of Angelica’s allegations against him. “Let’s just leave it at that. Basta ako, I’ve moved on at ayokong pumatol sa babae.”
EULA REFUTES CLAIM ABOUT ALEX
EULA Caballero is said to be the reason why Alex Gonzaga left TV5 and moved to ABS-CBN. It’s said Alex felt Eula is the only favorite now of the Kapatid network, what with her starring in a big expensive show like “Cassandra, Warrior Angel.” What can she say about this?
“Ha? Bakit ako?” says Eula at the “Cassandra” grand presscon. “Hindi naman ako lang ang favorite ng TV5. Lahat naman kami, nabibigyan ng break dito.”
But there’s no denying Eula gets her biggest break in “Cassandra,” with Gabby Concepcion and Eula Valdes supporting her no less as her parents, Alwyn Uytingco as her eldest brother and with three leading men at that: Daniel Matsunaga, Victor Silayan and Albie Casiño.
NO MORE SHOWBIZ LOVERS FOR CRISTINA
WE notice that Cristina Decena, ex-wife of comedian Ariel Villasanta, has dropped the Decena from her name in the TV commercial she did for Manila Pest Control (Mapecon) and now uses Cristina Castillo. “That’s my real family name,” she says. “Decena is from my first husband, but since matagal na rin kaming hiwalay, I decided to use my maiden name.”
Although her marriage to Ariel didn’t last long, she became attached to his mom, the late Mommy Elvie, for whom she produced a TV show, “Mommy Elvie @ 18” that ran for 3 seasons. “She really became a second mom to me. Lagi kong tinatawagan at nagkukuwentuhan kami. When she died, masakit talaga for me. One time, naalala ko pa siyang tawagan, but then I realized wala na nga pala siya at bigla akong napaiyak. As a tribute to her on Mother’s Day, yung footage na nakunan na namin for the 4th season, ipapalabas namin to show her courage while fighting cancer nang hindi man lang nagko-complain. This is ‘Mommy Elvie, A Mother’s Day Special’, to be shown at 11 a.m. this Saturday, May 4, sa GMA News TV Channel 11.”
Does she have any communication with Ariel? “Totally, wala na. But nagkita kami noong last night ng wake ni Mommy Elvie at civil naman kami sa isa’t isa. For the special tribute to Mommy Elvie, pumayag naman siya to be a part of it at nagpa-interview pa siya. Friends naman kami, pero wala nang balikang magaganap. I’ve moved on. Happy na ako sa buhay ko ngayon with my children. Sila na lang at ang businesses ko ang priority ko.”
Before Ariel, she was linked to Phillip Salvador and it also ended badly. “It’s exactly 10 years ago,” she says. “Napatawad ko na siya.”
Does she have any suitors now? “Meron. May taga-showbiz pa. Pero ayoko na. Pasong-paso na ako, dalang-dala na, lalo na sa taga-showbiz. If ever iibig ako uli, siguro sa gaya ko na lang na negosyante. But pahinga muna ko. Next time, I’d be more careful. Yun ang natutunan ko, hindi dapat magmadali. Pag-aralan munang mabuti. Gusto ngang i-feature ng GMA ang personal story ko in one of their shows pero ayoko. Kasi may mga taong lalabas na masama. Kawawa naman ang mga anak ko, e friends na rin kami ng ex-husband ko now.”
In June, she’ll go into TV hosting in a new show, “I Do,” which will feature unique weddings and true love stories. “Abangan nyo kasi kakaiba ito. Maraming maku-kuhang insights about relationships. Sa GMA News TV Channel 11 rin ipalalabas.”
