(Ynares Sports  Arena)

3 p.m.  -- Batangas vs. Victoria Sports

5 p.m. -- Racal vs. AMA

CIGNAL-San Beda made sure that there will be no second half meltdown this time around.

The Hawkeyes raced to an 18-point lead in the first half before coasting to a 88-74 victory over Cafe France in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup last night at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Unlike in last week’s 85-94 loss to AMA Online University where it squandered a 17-point advantage, Cignal held on to its double-digit lead  after building a 26-8 advantage for its first win of the season.

Earlier, Mark Cruz scattered 27 points as Tanduay defeated  Wang’s  Ballclub, 94-81, to  barge into the win column.

Byron Villarias shone for the Hawkeyes with 21 points while Jason Perkins added 14 points and eight rebounds.

“I’m happy the way players played. It is a matter of finishing the game,” said Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez. “Everybody played well off the bench. Everybody stepped up.”

Bong  Quinto added 14 points, six  rebounds and five assists while Raffy Reyes had 13 points and five assists for the Rhum Masters, who led by as much as 22 points in the second half en route in tying the Hawkeyes, the Couriers and the Bakers at 1-1.

Mark Braña led Wang’s with 13 points and six rebounds, Rey Publico had 12 points and eight boards while Von Tambeling tossed in 10 points.

Tanduay found its  groove in the second half, as it uncorked a 13-4 spurt to close out the third frame and grab a 77-61 edge.

“We are  more aggressive in this game on offense  and defense,” said coach Lawrence Chongson on his Rhum Masters.

“Yung opensa namin, mas hindi na kami tentative,” added Chongson.

Wang’s  Ballcub won  over  Victoria  Sports-MLQU,   92-83, in its opening  assignment last Jan. 26.

The tournament resumes today with  AMA  Online  Education  seeking its thir dstraight win  against  Racal-Arellano University at 5 p.m. while Batangas faces  Victoria Sports in the opening 3 p.m. game.

AMA is eyeing to extend its winning run to three, while Racal is seeking its second straight victory.
