A 33-year-old tricycle driver had to spend Christmas in jail after stabbing and seriously wounding his own friend who merely tried to stop him from stabbing another man in Tondo, Manila the other night.

Now facing murder charges at the Manila Prosecutors Office (MPO) was suspect Anthony de la Paz, of 750 Interior 15, J. Planas St., Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila.

SPO2 Joseph Kabigting of the Manila Police District-homicide section said that the suspect was nabbed in Cavite in connection with a complaint filed by victim Romeo Agocejo, 49, a carpenter, of 753-A Kagandahan St., Gagalangin, Tondo on December 20, 2016 at around 6 p.m. at the corner of Perfecto and Kagandahan Streets in Gagalangin.

Witness Jack Louie Hernandez, 18, told the police that the suspect was about to stab him but he was able to run away.  The victim then began pacifying the suspect  but the latter vented his ire on him.

Information gathered showed that the suspect and Hernandez had an argument during an earlier basketball game.  The group of Hernandez reportedly refused to allow the suspect to join.

The suspect left but returned later already armed with a bladed weapon and drunk.
