Tigers on course for UAAP general title

DESPITE its last place finish in men’s basketball, University of Santo Tomas remains on course for a 41st UAAP seniors general championship after an impressive showing in other fronts in Season 79.

The Growling Tigers swept the women’s and men’s beach volleyball, as well as the men’s and women’s judo crowns and also topped the men’s taekwondo and men’s table tennis events en route in collecting 161 points based on unofficial tally at the conclusion of first semester.
La Salle, eyeing for a fourth overall title, is running second with 149 points highlighted by championships in centerpiece men’s basketball, poomsae and women’s table tennis.
The Tigers placed second in women’s taekwondo, poomsae and women’s table tennis and were not able to finish lower than fifth in five other first semester event.
The Green Archers, for their part, settled for runner-up finishes in women’s basketball, men’s table tennis and men’s swimming, and bagged third place in women’s beach volleyball, women’s badminton, women’s swimming and men’s judo.
In third place is University of the Philippines with 123 points, followed by Ateneo (117), National University (109), Far Eastern University (78), University of the East (67) and Adamson (47).
The Fighting Maroons ruled women’s badminton and women’s swimming, placed third in men’s beach volleyball, men’s badminton, poomsae, women’s judo and men’s swimming.
The Blue Eagles emerged victorious in men’s swimming, while their men’s basketball, men’s and women’s badminton, women’s swimming and men’s judo squads ended up in second, and their women’s taekwondo team achieved a breakthrough third place run.
