USD, ‘Thirty’ make it

UNIVERSAL  Sales Group Basketboleros and  NSJBI Thirty defeated their respective rivals to clinch the finals berths  in  the New San Jose Basketball League at the Quezon City High School  gym in Kamuning.

Top seed USG  crushed  No. 4 Victoria  de Manila, 91-72, while No. 3 seed NSJBI  Thirty downed  No. 2 seed  Team Macro Sales, 69-65, to set up a winner- take-all encounter in this  six-team tournament organized by New San Jose Builders, Inc., headed by businessman-sportsman Jose Acuzar and son Jomar Acuzar for  their employees.
   
Former  Colegio de  San Lorenzo standout JC Foronda scattered a game-high 35 points for the USG Basketboleros of coach  Bobby Bactat.
   
Kenneth Ancheta  added 24 points and Alvin Padilla  contributed 14.
   
Ryan Mendoza topscored  with 21 points for  Oliver Soriano mentored-Victoria de Manila All Stars.
   
Jeffrey Payabyab and Karl Arsolon had 18 points each and Christian Cabayao added 10 markers.
   
RR Telles and Albert Vergel fired 24 and 20 points for the NSJBI Thirty of playing coach Ricky Sopranes and Nhoel Estevez in pulling the rug  from under highly-favored Team Macro Sales.
   
Jovan Valmonte carried the fight for Team Macro Sales of coach Nick  Obarra with 21 points followed  by Lolong Guillen with 16 points.
   
The six- team, one round tournament is organized by Sopranes, Theo  Diaz,  Nikolai Pablo and Pompey Dela Cruz.
   
The  championship  match set next week at MLQU Victoria Sports gym in  EDSA, Kamuning QC with  team  owner Jose  Acuzar) awarding  the trophies to the winners.
   
Isabelle  Sales  Group (ISG) 2-3 and Construction,  Bank Financing and  Stradd (CBFS) 1-4 bowed  out  of  contention in the tournament.
