Quezon City policemen seized 64 illegal firearms during the implementation of a search warrant in a gun store near Camp Crame.
Acting QCPD director Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said one of the gun shop owners, identified as Joel Baloca Mendoza, 37, married, of Bgy. Bagong Lipunan, was arrested, while his brother, Johny, a co-respondent in the search warrant escaped.
The police official said that prior to the implementation of the search warrant issued by Judge Angelene Mary W. Quiampo-Sale, of the National Capital Judicial Region (NCJR) RTC Branch 106, DSOU personnel conducted surveillance and test buy operations at Triple A Gun Store maintained by siblings Joel and Johny Mendoza at 15 2nd Avenue, Bgy. Bagong Lipunan, Crame, Cubao, QC.
Police said they received information regarding the illegally possessed firearms that are being sold to unqualified buyers without License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) by the shop owner.
Mendoza failed to present to the operatives legal documents which authorizes him to possess those firearms which resulted in the confiscation of 53 short and 11 long firearms. Instead, he only presented documents confirming the legitimacy of their operation as a gun store and gun smith shop.
A case of violation of RA 10591 will be filed against Joel Mendoza.
