KAHIT congressman na ng Quezon City, hindi pa rin kinakalimutan ni Alfred Vargas ang paggawa ng pelikula. In fact, bida siya sa indie film na Ang Guro Kong ’Di Marunong Magbasa na isa sa 10 finalists para sa Cinemalaya 2017 full length film competition.

The film is written and directed by theater, television and film actor Perry Escaño.

Alfred will play a farmer who pretends to be a teacher in order to save the kids in his community to become child warriors.
Kasama niya sa movie ang ilang award-winning child actors na sina Miggs Cuaderno (Children’s Show, Purok 7), Micko Laurente (Bambanti, Pitong Kabang Palay), Marc Justine Alvarez (Transit) at Bon Lentejas (Hamog).

The film, with an advocacy on the value of education has a powerful and amazing supporting actors such as Lou Veloso, Mon Confiado, Kiko Matos, Madeleine Nicolas, Ernie Garcia, Bong Cabrera, Jess Evardone, Rob Sy, Leon Miguel, Richard Manabat, Paul Sy, Abel Napuran, and Marife Necesito (international actress from the cast of Mammoth).
The film also stars ABS-CBN Star Magic actresses Loren Burgos (Mulat) and Garie Concepcion (daughter of Gabby Concepcion and Grace Ibuna), while Kapuso actresses Jhoanna Marie Tan and Lianne Valentin also join the cast, among others.
Cinemalaya, dubbed as the most prestigious indie film festival in the country, is close to the heart of Vargas as he has been a consistent patron of the said popular filmfest.
For the record, Ang Guro Kong ’Di Maru­nong Magbasa is Vargas’ fifth Cinemalaya film entry after Colorum by Jobin Ballesteros (2009), Ang Paglilitis Ni Andres Bo-nifacio by Mario O’Hara (2010), Teoriya by Zurich Chan (2011) and Separados by GB Sampedro (2014).
This directorial debut of Escaño will have its world premiere at the 13th edition of Cinemalaya to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) from August 4 to 13, 2017 and will be released in commercial cinemas on September 2017.
Inspired by true events, the film is an inspirational, action and dramatic story that happened in one of the barrios in South-Western Mindanao.  It is a historical true story mixed with fiction about a farmer’s life.
