Cinemalaya, dubbed as the most prestigious indie film festival in the country, is close to the heart of Vargas as he has been a consistent patron of the said popular filmfest.

For the record, Ang Guro Kong ’Di Marunong Magbasa is Vargas’ fifth Cinemalaya film entry after Colorum by Jobin Ballesteros (2009), Ang Paglilitis Ni Andres Bo-nifacio by Mario O’Hara (2010), Teoriya by Zurich Chan (2011) and Separados by GB Sampedro (2014).

Inspired by true events, the film is an inspirational, action and dramatic story that happened in one of the barrios in South-Western Mindanao.  It is a historical true story mixed with fiction about a farmer’s life.

Magsisimula ang syuting ng pelikula sa December.
