EIGHT armed drug suspects, one of them a woman, were killed in reported gunbattles with undercover officers in Bulacan yesterday and late last week, Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. announced yesterday.

In a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director Chief Supt. Aaron N. Aquino, Caramat said four of the suspects were killed while trading bullets with policemen in Norzagaray and San Rafael towns and in Malolos City, the official said.

He identified three of the slain suspects as Rod Mendoza, alias ‘Diko,’ 55, of Sitio Pogpog, Bgy. Poblacion, Norzagaray; Paul Bergonio, alias ‘Jepet,’ 35, also of Bgy. Poblacion; and Reynaldo Balingit, 58, an electrician, of Looban St., Bgy. Catmon, Malolos City. The fourth slain suspect remained unidentified as of press time.

Both Mendoza and Bergonio were killed in an exchange of fire with members of the Norzagaray Municipal Police Station, headed by Supt. Rizalino Andaya, in Bgy. Poblacion at 1:40 a.m.

Recovered from the suspects were two improvised 12-gauge shotguns, several live ammunition, two plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and two marked P100 bills paid to them by a poseur. Andaya said the two apparently sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and pulled out their concealed weapons and fired shots at the undercover officer.

Other lawmen posted in the area returned fire, killing the two on the spot.

In Bgy. Caingin, San Rafael, members of the Bulacan Provincial Public Safety Company, under Supt. Angel Garcillano, killed the still unidentified suspect who engaged them in a shootout while being flagged down at 12:20 a.m. yesterday.

Caramat said the suspect was on board a black Suzuki motorcycle (7034 CI) when he figured in a clash with the lawmen who were monitoring him for his illegal drug activities. A companion of the slain suspect, who yielded a cal. .38 revolver ,managed to escape and is still being hunted.

In Malolos City, local policemen under Supt. Heryl Bruno shot and killed Balingit during a buy-bust operation near his residence at 1:50 a.m. last Saturday. The suspect’s live-in partner, Domingo Lovely Calong, 33, massage attendant, was arrested during the operation.

Recovered during the operation were one Smith & Wesson .38 revolver without serial number, several plastic sachets of shabu, P357.25 in different denominations, assorted drug paraphernalia and the marked money paid to the suspect by the poseur.

Last week, four other suspects identified as Remedios Garcia, 42, of 354 Hulo St., Bgy. Cainging, Bocaue town; Alberto Sabasa, alias ‘Don Obet’ and John Paul Andres, both of Santa Maria municipality and Crisostomo Diaz, 48, of Rey Abella Road in Bgy. Kaypian in San Jose del Monte City, were also killed in shootouts with the Bulacan police.
