TWO alleged big-time drug couriers, who are said to be members of the ‘Binondo Drug Ring,’ were arrested by the Manila Police District (MPD), who also seized from them some 20 kilos of shabu with an estimated street value of P100 million.
Nabbed in the operations conducted in Binondo, Manila, at around 4 a.m. yesterday were Rommel Rodriguez and Albert Gasingan, both of Parañaque City.
In the said operation which was carried out by the MPD’s Station Anti-Illegal Drugs Division and the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after a four-month surveillance operation, the poseur-buyer was supposed to buy shabu worth P300,000 but when the suspects were nabbed, police found in their car a total of 20 kilos of shabu placed inside a grey luggage. The shabu were put inside a plastic wrapped in carbon paper and then again in tin foil.
Police said they are still verifying if the shabu had come from another country or are to be brought to another counry.
Apart from the shabu, also found on the suspects were a cal. .45 gun, some live ammunition and the P300,000 marked money.
The gun confiscated will be made to undergo ballistic examination since the suspects are also suspected of involvement in the murder of Barangay Chairman Enrique Echales of Binondo, Manila, on October 13, 2016, and Chinese national Hua Tian Shi, alias ‘Andy Sy,’ on Sept. 17, 2016.
Police said they are now working on establishing who else may be behind the operation of the drug ring.
Meanwhile, the suspects have been made to underto inquest proceedings following the filing of appropriate charges against them before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
