CAMP Malvar, Batangas -- At least 18 illegal Small Town Lottery (STL) collectors, including three minors, were collared last Saturday by city authorities while consolidating bets in Bgy. Bagbag, Tanauan City.
Acting provincial police director Senior Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag identified the suspects as Gerry Ramos de Leon, 50; Danny de Luna Villanueva, 33; Edgardo Mendoza Ocampo, 51; Ronnel Barion Ocampo, 27; Aldrich Labrador Gonzales Sode, 51; Christian Llada Mendoza, Jomel Abaca Mendoza, 18; Jaylord Piocampo Simbahan, 19; Nicasio Rebatajon Ocampo, 51; Lamberto Javier Pacia Jr., 27; Melanie Catimbang Navarro, 39; Jun Catapang Ocampo, 33; Minors Boyet, Alex and Maynard (not their real names) 15, 16 and 17, respectively; Dennis Recto Rogelio, 28, and Michael delos Reyes Villegas, 34.
Investigators PO3 Rhaldie R. Manzanilla with PO1s Leo Arnie S. Leycano and Jhune Carlo M. Coballes said that at 5 p.m. Saturday, the Batangas Provincial Anti-Illegal Gambling Task Group, led by SPO2 Libe-rato D. Faelogo, conducted an operation against illegal gambling in Bgy. Bagbag, this city, that resulted in the arrest of the suspects.
According to police operatives, they were conducting surveillance in the said barangay when they spotted an open nipa hut with a group of people inside. When some of the police officers came closer to verify, they saw a group of people in possession of some gambling paraphernalia so they nabbed them. When asked for their identification cards to prove that they are authorized to collect bets, said group failed to show any.
Police found 20 booklets of Small Town Lottery (STL) collection report forms, 18 ballpens, four calculators, two pads of ledger and P6,437 in different denominations, Cabanag said.
The suspects, including three minors, were arrested and brought to the police station.
