BYSTANDERS collared an alleged drug addict who held up a motorist stuck in traffic Saturday night in Paco, Manila.
Carmelo Caramat, 36, of 1340 Int. 3, Burgos St., Paco, is now facing charges of robbery hold-up, illegal possession of deadly weapon and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Bystanders cornered the suspect after he held up victim Marvin Malbasino, 30, a company driver, of Block 2, Lot 2, Benedicto Compound, Marikina City.
The incident happened at around 4 p.m. while Malbasino was on board his car on his way to office when he stopped at President Quirino Avenue, in front of the Philippine Columbian in Paco, on red signal.
The victim was surprised when the suspect appeared from nowhere and at knifepoint took his cellphone. However, bystanders in the area saw the incident and chased the fleeing suspect who was immediately arrested.
The victim’s cellphone was recovered while the bystanders took the suspect to the police for proper disposition. Police found two plastic sachets of shabu in suspect’s pocket.
