SENATOR Leila de Lima was ousted as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Justice after 16 senators voted to declare the chairmanship and membership of the committee vacant.

De Lima was replaced by Senator Richard Gordon while Senator Panfilo Lacson will be the vice chairman.

The committee initiated the Senate probe into the alleged extrajudicial killings under the Duterte administration.

Four senators voted against a motion to declare all positions of the committee vacant while two abstained.

The members of the minority bloc headed by Senator Ralph Recto did not participate in the voting.

Gordon on the other hand said that the hearing of the committee on extrajudicial killings will continue.

Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao moved to declare the chairmanship and membership of the Senate Committee on Justice vacant after the privilege speech of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Cayetano criticized De Lima’s handling of her committee’s investigation into the spate of killings since President Duterte assumed office.
