5 NPA rebels surrender in Surigao del Sur

FIVE members of the New People’s Army on Saturday returned to the fold of the law in Surigao del Sur.

The rebels belonging to the Komiteng Rebolusyonaryo sa Munisipalidad- KRM Municipal Revolutionary Committee of the CPP-NPA yielded to the 75th Infantry Batallion at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Bgy. St. Christine, Lianga, Surigao del Sur.
   
The identities of those who surrendered were not divulged for security reasons.
   
Ltc. Harold Akaz, commanding officer of the 75th IB, expressed gratitude on the rebels’ decision to surrender and vowed immediate process of the government’s support.
   
“To the five former NPAs, thank you for finally giving peace a chance. We are happy that all of you will finally enjoy living a peaceful life with your families. We will facilitate all the support that shall be given to you to help you reintegrate in your respective communities,” Akaz said.
